SOUTHERN HEALTH & SOCIAL CARE TRUST MAINTENANCE
Lowry Building & Civil Engineering successfully provide Building Maintenance, Minor Building Works and Community Aids and Adaptations including all associated specialist Mechanical and Electrical services within Craigavon Area Hospital.
With the expertise and knowledge to work within this acute healthcare setting, our team and specialist subcontractors deliver essential maintenance throughout the hospital 365 days a year, 24/7.
The Altnagelvin Theatre Project represented the second of two high profile schemes which we were awarded by the Western Health and Social Care Trust and followed on from our successful completion of the Enabling Works for the prestigious new North Block.
The project involved the construction of two self-contained operating theatres at the hospital which were fully integrated within the existing Day Case Unit to complement two original day case theatres. Each operating theatre suite features ancillary accommodation, storage and staff rest rooms and was successfully integrated via the construction of a 2-storey extension within the hospital courtyard and connected to the established Day Case Unit and main hospital with a new link corridor. The extension also incorporated a new plant room at first floor level to ensure self-sufficiency.
The extension was built as a steel frame structure with composite insulated metal cladding and windows externally enveloped and dry-lined internally to achieve rigorous airtightness, durability and infection control criteria. Enabling works involved part (external & internal) strip-out of the Day Case Unit to accommodate the link corridor.
Each phase of work was delivered in a live operational environment and we implemented rigorous health, safety and environmental controls to mitigate disruption and maintain a critical service. In recognition of our approach the project was shortlisted as a Finalist in the 2018 CEF Construction Excellence Award under the Healthcare Infrastructure category.
The North Block Enablement Works contract was a very complex & unique project which required utmost dedication & professionalism to deliver 8 phases of work within 6 months in the confines & restraints of a major live acute hospital site.
The package contract included the construction of 2 carparks, relocation & reinstatement of a 900m2 Modular Clinical Education Centre, complete renovation of Ward 5 into an office administration wing, complete refurbishment of ward 9 for rheumatology & respiratory patients, installation of a new bed lift, complete refurbishment of wards 21, 23 & 00 for cancer patients & a link corridor between the existing North Block & Sperrin Suite.
A comprehensive M&E package with the installation of specialist equipment was integrated into all phases of the works.
