This crucial refurbishment of part of the existing tower & new build extensions together with essential fire safety works & alterations to the engineering services located in a vital piece of healthcare infrastructure was delivered meticulously by Lowry Building & Civil Engineering while allowing the surrounding wards, theatres & clinical areas to remain ‘live’ & operational throughout the construction programme.
The project required works in scattered areas across the hospital meaning a precise programme for all aspects which coordinated diligently with WHSCT activities.
Works included:
- Relocation of the existing hospital restaurant facility to the Ground floor of the Tower Block complete with new build ancillary accommodation, office & toilet facilities
- Refurbishment of Level 01 of the Tower Block ward wing to provide additional clinical support accommodation
- A new build 2 storey extension to create a direct link between the existing Tower Block & the West Wing
- Temporary relocation of the North Wing ambulance entrance
- Decommissioning of the ground & first floors of the treatment wing & fire safety works
The confined site location caused restricted staff access & infection control procedures to be implemented & monitored over the contract duration in addition to out-of-hours scheduling, critical in many cases to prioritise the needs of WHSCT & patients.
